"Be more like a dog," Mistress said to me after I had failed one of Her standing orders. Her disappointment in me was the hardest thing to bear, much worse than the physical pain of Her punishment.
She said, “A dog does not forget his Owner. A dog places Her above all else. He waits for Her and will wait forever for Her attention. He does not give up hope that She will return, or that She will take care of him. He does not give in to weakness or his own desires. He loves Her more than he loves himself.”
I wept. My tears fell for Her disappointment in me, for the pain I’d caused Her by forgetting a task, my responsibility.
Every so often I look to the dog, his noble dedication and steadfastness, and I wonder to myself if I’ve done enough, if I measure up to the dog and his qualities.
The answer is always, and will forever be “no.” I can always do more for Her, my Domina.
